தஞ்சாவூர் மாவட்டத்தில், திருவையாறு வட்டத்தில், நெடாருக்கும், கண்டியூருக்கும், மையப் பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள திருவேதிக்குடி கிராமத்தில் 2000 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பாக முதலாம் ஆதித்த சோழன் காலத்தில் கட்டப்பட்ட சிவன் கோயில் இருக்கின்றது. இக்கோயில் அப்பர், சம்பந்தர் உள்ளிட்டவர்களால் பாடல்ப்பெற்ற புனித கோயில், இந்த கோயிலின் வரலாறு பற்றி கூறும்போது சோழ நாடு காவிரி கரையில் அமைந்துள்ள 14வது சிவன் கோயில் இது என்று குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த கோயில் பல்வேறு பெயர்களால் அழைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாக தெரிய வருகிறது ,தற்காலத்தில் வேதபுரீஸ்வரர் கோயில் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.
இந்தக் கோயிலில் இருந்த உலோகத்திலான நடராஜர் சிலை கடந்த 1963 ஆம் ஆண்டு திருடு போயிருக்கிறது, திருடு போனதைப் பற்றி காவல்துறையில் புகார் அளிக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறது ஆனால் காணாமல் போன சிலையை கண்டுபிடிக்க தாமதமாகிக் கொண்டே இருந்திருக்கிறது,
இந்நிலையில் முன்னாள் ஊராட்சி மன்ற துணைத் தலைவராக இருந்த வெங்கடாசலம் என்பவர் சென்னையில் உள்ள சிலை திருட்டு தடுப்பு காவல் துறையிடம் கடந்த ஜனவரி மாதம் 1ஆம் தேதி சிலை திருட்டுப் போனதை பற்றி புகார் அளித்துள்ளார்,
அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து சிலை கடத்தல் திருட்டு தடுப்பு பிரிவு காவல்துறை தலைமை இயக்குனர் ஜெயந்த் முரளி உத்தரவின் பெயரில், காவல் பொது ஆய்வாளர் தினகரன் மேற்பார்வையில், காவல் கண்காணிப்பாளர் ரவி ,உதவி காவல் கண்காணிப்பாளர் பாலமுருகன், ஆய்வாளர் இந்திரா ஆகியோர் அடங்கிய தனிப்படை அமைக்கப்பட்டது , இந்த தனிப்படையின் தீவிர விசாரணையில் தற்போது இந்த கோயிலில் உள்ள நடராஜர் சிலை போலியானது என்று கண்டுபிடிக்க பட்டது. அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து மேலும் அதிதீவிர விசாரணையில் இந்த தனிப்படை இறங்கியது அதன் விளைவாக தஞ்சாவூர் மாவட்டம் திருவேதிக்குடி கிராமத்தில் உள்ள சிவன் கோயிலில் காணாமல் போன நடராஜர் சிலை அமெரிக்காவின் நியூயார்க்கில் உள்ள ஆசியா சொசைட்டி அருங்காட்சியகத்தில் இருப்பது கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டது. இதனை மீட்டு கொண்டு வருவதற்கான நடவடிக்கையை காவல்துறை எடுத்ததன் விளைவாக யுனோஸ்கோ ஒப்பந்தத்தின்படி காணாமல் போன உலோகத்திலான நடராஜர் சிலை விரைவில் தமிழ்நாட்டிற்கு வரும் என்று தெரிய வருகிறது.
கண்டுபிடித்த காவல்துறையினருக்கும் மீட்டெடுக்க பெரும் முயற்சி எடுத்த அனைவருக்கும் மாநாடு இதழின் மனமார்ந்த வாழ்த்துக்கள்.
