நெடு நாட்களாக ஆன்லைன் சூதாட்டத்தால் பல குடும்பங்கள் சீரழிந்து வந்தது, சமூக சீர்கேடுகள் நடந்து வருவது தொடர்கதையானது , சிறுவர்கள், இளைஞர்கள் உட்பட சமூகத்தில் மதிக்கக் கூடிய வகையில் வாழ்ந்தவர்களும் ,இந்த ஆன்லைன் சூதாட்டத்தால் பணம் கையாடல் செய்து, மதிப்பிழந்து தற்கொலை செய்து கொள்ளும் நிகழ்வுகளும் நடந்தேறிக் கொண்டே இருந்தது, இவ்வாறு அனைத்து வகையிலும் சமூக கேடு விளைவிக்கும் ஆன்லைன் சூதாட்டத்தை தடை செய்ய சொல்லி சமூக ஆர்வலர்களும், மக்கள் மேல் அக்கறை உள்ள அரசியல் கட்சிகளும் தலைவர்களும் கோரிக்கை வைத்திருந்தார்கள்,
அதன் விளைவாக தமிழ்நாட்டில் தற்போது ஆட்சி அமைத்திருக்கின்ற திமுக அரசு ஆன்லைன் சூதாட்டத்தை ரத்து செய்யலாமா ,வேண்டாமா என்று மக்களிடத்தில் வாக்கெடுப்பு நடத்தியது, இந்த செயல் பலராலும் விமர்சிக்கப்பட்டது, அதன் பிறகு ஒரு வழியாக சட்டமன்றத்தில் தீர்மானம் நிறைவேற்றி ஆளுநருக்கு அனுப்பி வைக்கப்பட்டது, தமிழக ஆளுநர் ஆர்.என்.ரவி தற்போது ஆன்லைன் சூதாட்ட தடை தீர்மானத்திற்கு ஒப்புதல் அளித்துள்ளார். இதன் காரணமாக ஆன்லைன் சூதாட்டம் தடை செய்யப்பட்டு மக்கள் காக்க பட்டால் மகிழ்ச்சியே உடனடியாக ஆன்லைன் தடை சட்டம் நிறைவேற்றப்பட வேண்டும்.
